This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems.

Overview

HII – Mission Technologies is seeking motivated and innovative Mechanical Engineering Interns for Summer 2027 to support engineering, prototyping, and unmanned systems initiatives at our Crane, IN location. This internship offers hands-on experience working with advanced mechanical design tools, additive manufacturing, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) within a collaborative, mission-focused environment.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Support 3D printing/additive manufacturing workflows including part preparation, fabrication, and post-processing.
  • Contribute to prototype development, testing, and validation activities.
  • Participate in UAS-related mechanical design tasks, modifications, and system integration efforts.
  • Generate engineering documentation including CAD models, drawings, and test reports.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on research, rapid prototyping, and production efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Level 3 Intern - High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with between 40% and 60% of the required credits completed.
  • Level 4 Intern - High School Diploma or equivalent + Must be working towards a Bachelor's degree with more than 60% of the required credits completed.
  • Experience or familiarity with SolidWorks, 3D printing, and/or UAS systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Must be able to work onsite at a facility located in Crane, IN.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for access to government facilities.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain a secret level security clearance. 

Physical Requirements

Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
