Summary

Join HII Elevator Support Unit (ESU) in Chesapeake, VA as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve. ESU trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected Tradesperson candidate will support ESU, working closely with our skilled trades teams on surface ship systems, utilizing various tools of the trade, installing, modernizing and providing maintenance to shipboard weapons handling systems. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task. 

What You Will Do

  • Under direction, performs routine work technical trades duties to include support of technical repairs and installations.
  • Work from blueprints and tech manuals. Work assigned is typical of standard work assignments common to specialty trades.
  • Applies job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks that vary based on job, contract, customer requirements, specifications, etc.
  • Performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience.

  • Must have experience safely using hand and power tools.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.

  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must have experience working in a team environment.

  • Must be able to travel 50%-75% of the time.

  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Prior Shipboard experience.

  • Previous work related to technical trades.

  • Candidates who hold a current or active DoD confidential clearance or higher

  • Experience with the use of mechanical tools and equipment. 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
