Summary
HII-Mission Technologies is seeking an advanced UAS Advisor with operational and technical experience, spanning both military tactical systems and commercial small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) platforms. The successful candidate will have a proven track record integrating and employing UAS for reconnaissance, search and rescue, and disaster-response operations. This position focuses on merging field expertise with advanced digital integration -- combining UAS, ATAK networking, and MANET IP radio connectivity (Silvus, MPU5, Doodle Labs), to enable resilient ISR and situational awareness solutions for partner forces across global operations. *Position: Remote and part time.
*Travel: This position requires episodic travel to OCONUS locations, often to remote and challenging environments. Expect deployments lasting several weeks to months at a time. Travel may include locations with limited infrastructure and security concerns.
What you will do
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate UAS training programs covering both military Group 2/3 and commercial small-UAS platforms (Custom built, Autel, Skydio, Parrot)
- Train and advise foreign and partner forces in UAS employment for search and rescue, reconnaissance, and humanitarian operations
- Plan and execute ATAK-integrated ISR missions, including live video streaming, geotagging, and sensor-to-shooter workflows
- Configure and operate MANET IP radio networks (Silvus, MPU5, Doodle Labs) for data and video transport in tactical environments
- Support payload integration (EO/IR, mapping, multispectral sensors) and data-management workflows for real-time situational awareness
- Assist in the design and testing of offline TAK networks and tactical cloud architectures for disconnected or denied environments
- Develop scenario-based training events linking UAS, ATAK, and C5ISR systems
- Draft SOPs, lesson plans, and technical documentation reflecting current UAS TTPs and joint interoperability standards
- Develop and execute cross-training sessions to qualify team members in UAS operation, ATAK integration, and MANET network configuration to maintain mission continuity in austere environments
- Work effectively with interpreters to facilitate training and communication with foreign partners
- Advise on counter-UAS threat mitigation, deconfliction, and integration into larger operational frameworks
- Provide on-site technical support and instruction during CONUS and OCONUS training missions
- Additional duties as assigned or required
What we are looking for
- 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience
- Experience operating Group 1–3 UAS (military or commercial)
- Demonstrated experience training, advising, and integrating small UAS within special operations or interagency missions
- Proven experience configuring ATAK clients, TAK servers, and MANET radio networks for live data and video streaming
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts (multicast/unicast UDP, CoT protocols)
- Familiarity with custom built UAS, Autel EVO Max, Skydio, or Blue sUAS 2.0 platforms
- Strong troubleshooting ability across hardware, software, and network layers
- Experience in SAR or disaster-response drone operations
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including international travel
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
Bonus points for...
- 5+ years experience operating Group 1–3 UAS (military or commercial)
- Former SOF operator, advisor, or instructor with UAS integration background
- ATAK/CIVTAK certification or advanced TAK ecosystem experience
- Demonstrated integration of Silvus MN-Series or Persistent Systems MPU5 radios with UAS
- FAA Part 107 Certification
- Experience with counter-UAS TTPs, EW awareness, or spectrum management
- Formal instructor certification (e.g., TRADOC, USMC MCI)
- Experience working with interpreters and navigating cultural sensitivities
- Language proficiency in the Chinese language (Mandarin or Cantonese) highly desirable
- Prior OCONUS experience in advisory or capacity-building missions
- Familiarity with INDOPACOM or AFRICOM operating environments
- Clearance: Possess and maintain a Secret clearance
