We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in shipboard mechanical/electrical and ventilation systems to support engineering, design, maintenance, and integration efforts across various naval platforms. This person will be a member of the Aircraft Carrier Climate Control Improvement Team (ACCCIT) within the CEMAT group. The ideal candidate will provide technical support and analysis on system performance, integration strategies and lifecycle support. This is a full-time position, located in Bremerton, WA. 

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the lead technical authority on shipboard mechanical and HVAC/ventilation systems for naval and maritime platforms.
  • Provide technical expertise for system design, modification, and operational assessments.
  • Manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.
  • Install, upgrade, and remove products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.
  • Maintain effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
  • Interface with shipyard personnel, ship’s engineering teams, and government stakeholders to ensure system performance and compliance.
  • Assist in the development of test procedures and conduct shipboard testing and validation, as needed, in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Support logistics planning including parts provisioning, technical manuals, and training materials.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ABS, DCM,  ASHRAE, MIL-STD, NAVSEA standards).

What You Must Have

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S. Navy or commercial marine platforms.
  • Strong understanding of shipboard system integration and configuration management.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain base access. 

 

Preferred: Bonus Points For

  • Experience with NAVSEA Technical Manuals, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), and ship check processes.

  • A current, active DoD security clearance. 

  • Previous troubleshooting and repair experience with shipboard mechanical and HVAC/ventilation systems for naval and maritime platforms.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
