HII- Technical Solutions Division (TSD) is currently seeking a Platform Engineer in either their San Antonio, TX or Annapolis Junction, MD location, to bring modern best practices to the Air Force.

We are looking for multiple experienced Platform Engineers to lead a Platform team. You will be joining a group of diverse, passionate engineers from all manner of backgrounds, responsible for the development, security, and operations of the USAF Kessel Run's global runtime platform. The Kessel Run goal is to revolutionize the way software is developed in the government sector, and to take on the tough problems that impact mission operations.

The ideal candidate will be able to advise product teams as the best practices in handling large and complex data sets and help data scientists convert proof of concept solutions into fast and efficient production‐ready systems.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending upon assignments and other factors (to include but not be limited to the following):

  • Understand modern software development methodologies and tooling (continuous integration, version control, modern build systems and dependency management, SAST/DAST)
  • Ideate approaches to automation, deployment, and change management for third party systems/applications (treat operations as a development effort)
  • Write robust automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment, operation of third-party systems/applications.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software or Electrical Engineering, or similar technical degree with 6 years of progressive professional and/or supervisory experience 
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant software development experience
  • Experience in the design and development of Java, Python, and Go applications in critical production environments
  • Experience working with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience with major PaaS solutions (CNCFcompliant Kubernetes) and CI/CD technologies (Jenkins, GitLab etc.)
  • Experience in designing and building scalable containerized applications (Kubernetes / OCI compliant containers)
  • Experience in developing service desk workflows (Jira Service Desk or similar)
  • Ability to function as part of a team, yet comfortable in speaking up when the wrong technical direction is being taken
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance which would require US citizenship 



Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to present technical data and approaches to both technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Experience with training and mentoring junior developers
  • Background designing and developing cybersecurity tools and applications
