Job Description

HII is partnering in a critical training initiative within the United States Space Force (USSF) aimed at preparing space units for advanced tactical operations within a contested, degraded, and operationally limited (CDO) environment. This exercise represents a major milestone in the evolution of space as a distinct warfighting domain, reflecting a shift toward recognizing the strategic importance of space for national defense and international security. 

 

In this role you will be the Principal AI/ML Engineer your primary goal will be to advance space simulation and lead AI development for the USSF customer. You will collaborate with a cross-functional data team comprising of AI engineers, modeling and simulation engineers, product owners, and program managers. Your primary responsibility will be to develop artificial intelligence models that are integral to a larger pipeline and deliver value to our end customer The job is primarily to develop advance AI to support superior space, multi-domain, joint service, operations. These simulations will support force structure planning, Joint Combatant Command analysis and operations support, Space Force testing and training, and research and development of space systems.

The majority of work will be on-site in-side of JWICS terminals for classified information exchange, Kirtland AFB for team meetings, and travel to support various customers across the continental U.S.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.

  • Proficient in Python, C++, .Net
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience.
  • Practical experience in Machine Learning models and Software Engineering.
  • Experience building and maintaining machine learning platforms and pipelines.
  • Experience in building machine learning models, and in using data processing frameworks.
  • Proven experience with modern software development and engineering practices including scrum/agile, Git, and DevOps.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in US and Allied space enterprise position, knowledge and/or experience creating models that simulate natural phenomena for of space, orbital dynamics, sensors, communication nodes, cyber, and simulation.
  • Ability research and deliver new technology that improves simulations computational performance.
    • Understanding of DSP/GPU/SIMD programming.
    • Knowledge of massively parallel, distributed, message-based programming.

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for developing software on normal IT systems.
