Job Description

HII USG has an exciting systems engineering role to develop, integrate, test, and field sonar systems aboard autonomous maritime vehicles.  This individual will apply strong sonar knowledge and experience to solve the challenges in engineering unmanned systems that actively and passively survey and monitor the acoustic domain. The role works within a multi-disciplinary team, this individual will perform the following: 

  • Lead analyses at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of sonar systems aboard UUVs and USVs
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer and mission needs into sonar system requirements
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and develops and maintains accurate documentation
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on sonar within the organization, assisting in the creation of standards, test methodologies, and training programs

     

Essential Job Responsibilities

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Degree in Ocean Engineering, Acoustics, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with sonar systems, including analog & digital hardware, sonar software tools, and acoustic signal analysis
  • Experience with hardware/software requirements definition, design, test, integration, troubleshooting 
  • Must have secret clearance #LI-MH1

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with Matlab
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Domain knowledge and contextual understanding of robotics and use of robotics in naval mission space, especially autonomous vehicles
  • Experience with generation of work for ROM/Proposal

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
