*This position is contingent upon funding.

We are currently seeking a Specification Writer to develop procedures used for the operation and manuals for qualification and training on the equipment and systems aboard modern nuclear submarines. 

 

As new or modernized systems are installed aboard submarines, this person examines the technical documentation (drawings, specification sheets, etc.) and procedures (technical manuals, component procedures, etc.) supplied by various vendors and system/equipment design agencies to develop standardized procedures and manuals to be used by the sailors aboard the submarine and maintenance personnel who will be maintaining and testing these systems.


The Specification Writer works with other writers, engineers, supply vendors, and the Navy to ensure the best information possible is made available to the submarine fleet.  Additionally, the specification writer will help maintain the maintenance manual containing drawings and repair procedures for over 3500 different valves used on today's submarines.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Prepares specifications from engineering change notices, customer specifications, and/or published data sheets. Maintains customer specifications files; reviews customer drawings and data; translates customer language into standard procedures and product flow.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • Operational experience in shipboard or industrial electronics systems. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Confidential security clearance.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe.

Preferred Requirements

  • Shipboard (preferably submarine) training and operational experience in combat systems, sonar, radio, and/or navigation electronics; or naval nuclear propulsion training and operational experience.

Physical Requirements

Job performance may require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Must be capable of climbing ladders, and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
