Description


Integrated Product Support within Mission Technologies - Fleet Sustainment is seeking a Mid Level Technical Writer HYBRID (Specification Writer 3) to develop procedures used for the operation of equipment and systems aboard aircraft carriers, and other manuals used for training of personnel and maintenance of these systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating technical specifications and documentation for our products and services. The Specification Writer 3 will work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all specifications are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

What You Will Do

 

  • Prepares specifications from engineering change notices, customer specifications, and/or published data sheets.
  • Maintains customer specifications files
  • Reviews customer drawings and data
  • Translates customer language into standard procedures and product flow.
  • Onsite working in office for training and remote working is available when sufficient in your job duties.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices related to technical documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and other technical meetings to provide input on specifications and documentation

What You Must Have

 

  • Must have a High School Diploma/Equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a DoD confidential security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe.
  • General proficiency with technical writing principles, sufficient understanding of how to translate technical content into standard procedural language, as well as the ability to apply or adhere to wide range of content and formatting requirements.
  • Must have general knowledge to understand basic equipment description and operation information, as well as the ability to evaluate content for compliance with documented requirements and supplied reference material.
  • Be able to apply critical thinking to resolve technical issues.
  • Proficiency conducting in-depth review and research of provided technical documentation to identify required updates or the need for development of new content.
  • The ability to communicate professionally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including other specification writers, team/production leads, and engineering Points of Contact. 

Bonus Points For Having!

 

  • General knowledge related to the construction, function, and operation of shipboard hull, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment.
  • Prior Navy Technical Manual experience.
  • Prior Aircraft Carrier experience in engineering, reactor, or combat systems departments.
  • Familiarity with SGML/XML authoring software.
  • Prior experience with MCMS, MCS, or other shipboard monitoring and control system.
     

Physical Requirements


Job performance may require working in an industrial or shipboard environment. Must be capable of climbing ladders, and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
