Job Description

The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Air Mission Planner 3 facilitates proper approvals for ground parties entering and departing bombing target range areas during operating hours following local range regulations. Facilitates proper approval advisories for aircraft participants operating on bombing ranges with Air Traffic Control approval, per the Daily Range Schedule and appropriate local military range instructions. Monitors aircraft ordnance drops and, as applicable, electronically score for accuracy when required in the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC) and other services required for the NITE. Typically, requires 7+ years of experience. The candidate will communicate closely with other team members, range users, and government clients to facilitate, coordinate, monitor, update, and deconflict all scheduled events in the SCIRC in compliance with all instructions, manuals, memorandums, and directives. The position requires flexibility to work occasional non-standard work hours and work weeks of more than 40 hours to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements. Additionally, the position requires flexibility as duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements. 

Essential Job Responsibilities

Develops detailed schedule of aircraft overhaul on a constantly moving minute-to-minute basis in relation to the availability of staff, skills, tools, equipment, parts, materials, and required work areas consistent with the aircraft release schedule and cost forecasts. Determines work operations required and the tooling, equipment, materials, employee skills, and hours necessary for their accomplishment. Plans, recommends, and coordinates the sequencing and allocation of daily workload for efficient use of staff, skills, and space. Integrates non-routine work into scheduled workload; assigns jobs according to the skills, experience, and training of mechanics; develops requirement forecasts; investigates the recoverability of parts and components and determines appropriate reconditioning processes. Reviews job progress and makes adjustments to planned schedule to meet changing workload conditions. Maintains records of production, units in process, inventories, project accomplishment, aircraft overhauls, staff performance, and current and projected workloads. Candidate will also be responsible for:

  • Maintaining smooth operations of scheduled events in the SCIRC.
  • Monitor all communications and activities on the watch floor to support range users as necessary—coordinate real-time scheduling.
  • Ensure the common operational picture is verified for accuracy. Provide range and training area management to all range users.
  • Create Discrepancy Reports to document and provide notifications of incidents, hazards, or mishaps. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have experience as Navy Air Intercept Controller or Anti-Submarine Air Controller, or actively engaged in air traffic control at either a TRACON or CATTC facility or a qualified tactical aircrew member of a C2 platform aircraft within two years. 
  • Experience with Fleet Training operations, air space management, and live-fire and laser authorization procedures. 
  • Available to telework and report on-site within an hour as required. 
  • Must be able to obtain an Interim Security Clearance (or transfer) promptly and maintain a US Government (DOD) Secret Clearance.

Physical Requirements
