The MSO Fabrication Shop and trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations & installations for fleet modernization. The selected Fabrication Shop Production Manager candidate will be supporting MSO, overseeing several processes and related duties to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization at our Woodlake Location in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Display high levels of quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
  • Engage with planning and program performance, addressing cost, schedule, technical performance, and quality of a work package, or related group of work packages on a large system development-type contract
  • Oversee and manage the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serve as liaison between project management and planning, project team, as well as line management.
  • Manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks efficiently for multiple jobs to meet production standards and schedules on various contracts while maintaining budgetary constraints.
  • Review status of projects and budgets; prepare status reports and conduct briefings and participate in technical meetings for internal and external representatives concerning specific operations, scheduling or phases of projects or contracts.
  • Develop and maintain engaging relationships with customer representatives and subcontractors for continued business growth.
  • Assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Develop mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Recommend modifications to operating policies.
  • Take responsibility for the direct supervision and management of staff and provide objective-oriented direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines and general policies.
  • Ensure performance of decisions that support accomplishment of organizational objectives.
  • Ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Estimate project cost and budgets for projected workflow.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 6 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years relevant progressive experience.
  • Must have competent working knowledge of welding equipment and processes including various shop metal working equipment. 
  • Must be proficient in the safe operation of standard fabrication equipment to monitor proper application and performance by staff.
  • Must have ability to read and interpret NAVSEA standards, documentation, procedures, and practices required for naval structural installations, welding and painting.
  • Must be able to plan and estimate incoming requests for bids.
  • Experience in the oversight of projects and tasks assigned to the organizational group performed by non-exempt and/or exempt employees.
  • May accomplish results through lower-level supervisor or exempt employees.
  • Must be proficient in the use of PCs and word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop applications, and electronic mail programs.
  • Must be able to interface and communicate effectively with employees, customers, and management.
  • Must be able to follow/enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Requirements

  • Prefer candidates experienced with managing a welding fabrication operation.
  • Prefer candidates with experience operating a metal brake, shear and plasma table. 
  • Prefer candidates experienced with metal blast, paint and coatings operations.
  • Prefer candidates experienced with multiple types of welding processes.
  • Candidate with shipboard experience highly desired

Physical Requirements

May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
